Process-Communications

The following is background information provided to Mr. Ufford-Chase for the questions asked by the panel relating to the General Assembly process, and Presbyterian Church USA communications....

A major concern of some members of our denomination is that the General Assembly, and advisory committees, issue national policy statements to the public that are perceived to be the "official position" of our faith, when in fact, these positions only represent that current General Assembly. Many local parishioners first find out about controversial issues stemming from the General Assembly meetings through the media (like the ones currently being discussed), and then feel they have no input or recourse in the actions taken, and react negatively.

Having touble?

  • Our default video player is Windows Media Player. Real Media is also supported. You can select either one with the buttons at the bottom of the left hand column. (Note: if you do not have a video player on your computer, click on the desired player icon below to download a free player.)
    • Windows Media Player - Best quality, slowest loading. Only for high speed connections. This viewer is chosen by default when you first see this page.
    • Real Media Player - Less quality, but fast streaming. Best for dial-up connections.
  • You may need to turn off your firewall software (ie: Norton) if warnings pop up.

If you haven't viewed video on the web before, it can require some patience as connection speeds on the web can vary considerably. You may even need to click on a selection a second time to get a connection established.

If you are having trouble with the videos, click on the 'Help' button to the left of the player selection buttons at the bottom of the left column for some additional information.
